Celebrating African Male Excellence: EMY’s The  Lagos Soirée Returns with Glamour and Style

Lagos buzzed with energy at the EMY Africa Lagos Soirée II on the 7th of September 2024, where notable figures from Ghana and Nigeria gathered for a memorable lead-up to the annual EMY Africa Awards. The event drew a host of celebrities, including Richard Mofe-Damijo, Dele Momodu, Kojo Soboh, Ayo Animashaun, Efya, and Roselyn Ngissah. Other prominent guests included Cobhams, Majid Michel, Sasha P, Enyinna Nwigwe, Enioluwa, James Gardiner, and Kelechi Amadi Obi, among others.

Held at the Weststar Mercedes-Benz Showroom in Lekki, the soirée kicked off at 7 PM with a red carpet session, setting the stage for an evening of elegance. Ghanaian cultural dancers greeted each guest at the entrance, adding to the excitement of the night.

The event offered a warm atmosphere and a steady bar service provided by Rémy Martin, making it a night of relaxation and celebration.

In a show of unity between Ghana and Nigeria, Latasha Ngwube from Nigeria and Mawuli Gavor from Ghana co-hosted, much to the crowd’s pleasure.

The excitement ramped up with a stunning performance by Efya, followed by a surprise act from Nonso Bassey. Guests showcased vibrant African fashion against a backdrop of luxurious Benz vehicles, all beautifully captured by celebrity photographer Ngozi Eme.

Chef Tucker curated the menu for the evening, serving up tasty and innovative canapés inspired by African culture.

 A key moment of the night was announcing the nominees for the 9th EMY Africa Awards across five categories. In the

Outstanding Designer of the Year: Chocolate by Bediako, Phil & Joe, Anthony Dzamefe, Yomi Casual, and Andrew Mckenzie. 

Man of the Year Music: Black Sherif, Stonebwoy, King Promise, and Sarkodie. 

Actor of the Year: James Gardiner, Timini Egbuson, Too Sweet Annan, Anthony Woode, and Kunle Remi. 

Man of the Year Sports: Mohammed Kudus, Jeremiah Owusu-Karamoah, Ekow Boye-Doe, and Abdul Fatawu. 

Lastly, Discovery of the Year: are Bus Stop Boys, Olive the Boy, Prince Gyasi, and Detail Africa.

 Kojo Soboh, Founder of EMY Africa, shared in his welcome speech:

“This year’s EMY Soirée sets the stage for even greater things to come. We’re proud to celebrate African male excellence and foster Nigeria-Ghana partnerships in entertainment. The main event in Accra promises a celebration of excellence like no other.”

After the presentations and the speech from the marketing manager at Mercedes and other event partners, the after-party kicked off right away. Some guests hit the dance floor while others mingled and caught up with friends they hadn’t seen in a while. Food and drinks were plentiful, creating a lively atmosphere. It was a great way to enjoy an evening in Lagos.
